1. India and China hold talks on disengagement in Galwan Valley

India and China have held a fresh round of Corps Commander-level talks at Chushul in eastern Ladakh on August 17. The meeting began at 10:30 AM and lasted until late in the night. The talks are centred on the disengagement of troops from Galwan Valley and other friction points in the region. It was the third round of negotiations between the two sides in the last two weeks.

2. India announces USD 15 billion Line of Credit to Bangladesh

India has announced a USD 15 billion Line of Credit to Bangladesh. The announcement was made during the virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. During the summit, the two leaders discussed the entire gamut of India-Bangladesh bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

3. Assam to launch ‘Asom Mala’ project to improve road connectivity

The Assam government has announced that it will launch the Asom Mala project to improve road connectivity in the state. The project will involve construction of around 3000 km of roads in the state. The project will be implemented in phases with a total estimated cost of Rs. 32,000 crore. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2022.

4. India, US ink pact to share military logistics

India and the US have signed a pact to share military logistics. The pact, named ‘Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement’ (LEMOA), was signed in Washington DC. The pact will enable the two countries to use each other’s assets and bases for repair and replenishment of supplies. It will also allow the two countries to use each other’s bases for training and joint exercises.
